Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis went after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Monday as the lawmaker continues to investigate her over allegations of misconduct while she prosecutes former President Trump’s election interference case in Georgia.

“Jim Jordan has repeatedly attacked my office for no legitimate purpose,” Willis said. in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow. “Anyone who knows Jim Jordan’s story knows that he only has the purpose of trying to interfere in a criminal investigation.”

Earlier this year, Jordan threatened to hold Willis in contempt of Congress if she did not cooperate with an investigation into her use of federal funds. She ultimately cooperated in the investigation, which she called “illegitimate” on Monday, calling the Ohio Republican’s actions “disgusting.”

“He has now resorted to his tricks, he is going to take a look at the subsidy programs, which I invite him to do. And we complied with his subpoenas, but he still continues his attacks to try to interfere in a criminal investigation,” she said. “At the same time that his jurisdiction has one of the worst crime rates, it has poverty problems.”

Willis — who is running for re-election Tuesday in Georgia’s Democratic primary — also denounced a similar state-level investigation against her.

“I bring this up at the federal level because now, at the state level, they have decided to follow this clown’s example and now want to try to interfere in an investigation,” she said. “And it’s not legitimate either.”

“And so, it will fail and go nowhere. But they are trying to attack me on every level,” she added.

Georgia’s criminal case against Trump has been marred by hearings into Willis’ conduct, specifically a romantic relationship between her and a prosecutor she assigned to the case. Nathan Wade resigned from the case in March after Judge Scott McAfee ruled that one of them should withdraw.

The trial date for the case is still unknown, although Willis had intended to begin in August 2024, which now appears unlikely.
