Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) on Thursday defended the fundraising from the “bleached blonde and poorly built body” insult she directed at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) amid a heated exchange between the two lawmakers during a committee hearing earlier this month.

In an interview with ABC’s “The View,” Crockett said he trademarked the phrase after seeing an opportunity to raise money for what he characterized as a righteous goal: saving democracy by helping Democrats gain control of the chamber. low.

“When I decided to do the branding, it wasn’t done personally, it was done as part of the campaign,” Crockett said, noting that he wasn’t raising money for personal gain. “It was because there was a demand. I have a degree in administration and also a lawyer. So the two things came together.”

Crockett criticized Republican leadership in the House and emphasized what he saw as the importance of Democrats winning a majority in the 2024 House elections to regain control of the legislative body.

“It’s about making sure we can raise the money. It’s so I can help save our democracy. My money goes to the front lines, people who are fighting to make sure we can take the House,” Crockett said.

“We saw that the Chamber operated like a circus. We need [House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)] as president of the Chamber. And then if they lose the House, I’ll go ahead and blame Marjorie.”

In response to criticism over her decision to capitalize on the highly controversial moment in the House, Crockett noted that the tactic is often used by other public figures — including former President Trump, who, she noted, has pocketed the profit from it in the past.

“Here’s the deal. There are people, like Trump, who want to sell Bibles, sell gym shoes, sell whatever. Anything he can sell, he’s going to sell, and he’s not doing it for his party. He he’s doing this for himself,” Crockett said.

“So what she meant by evil, in my opinion, God meant by good. And that’s what I was going to do at that moment,” she said.

During a House hearing on whether to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland accountable for contempt of Congress, chaos erupted following a contentious exchange between Greene and Crockett.

Greene asked Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee if they were employing the daughter of the judge overseeing Trump’s hush money case.

Crockett responded, saying, “Please tell me what this has to do with Merrick Garland” and adding, “Do you know why we are here?”

“I don’t think you know why you’re here,” Greene responded. “I think your false eyelashes are getting in the way of what you’re reading.”

After a chaotic scene unfolded in the chamber — with many Democrats expressing outrage at Greene commenting on Crockett’s physical appearance in this way — Crockett asked committee chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) a hypothetical question about his decision to attack Greene. words from the official Congressional record.

“I’m just curious, just to better understand his decision,” Crockett said of the president’s decision on the comments. “If someone on this committee starts talking about someone’s blond, poorly built body, that wouldn’t be engaging in personalities, right?”

Crockett’s quote quickly went viral on social media, and she later announced on social platform X that she would be launching a “Crockett Clapback Collection.” She also posted a photo of a t-shirt that said “Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body,” which she said would be available first.
