House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Friday that he would demand testimony from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) and other top prosecutors who worked on former President Trump’s case .

A post on social media site of the committee’s Armaments Subcommittee, said Jordan would request the presence of Bragg and prosecutor Matthew Colangelo for a June 13 hearing on “President Trump’s unprecedented political prosecution.”

The quickly scheduled hearing comes after a jury found Trump guilty on each of 34 counts brought by Bragg on charges related to falsifying records in order to hide secret payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Bragg’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but has resisted Jordan’s previous attempts to gain his cooperation, including before charges were filed in the case.

Bragg’s team suggested at the time that it was Jordan who was inappropriately interfering in the justice system.

“We will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine the judicial process, nor will we allow baseless accusations to prevent us from applying the law fairly,” a spokesperson for Bragg’s office said when Jordan first requested his testimony in March of this year. past.

Although the trial is over, Bragg will likely resist appearing while other matters surrounding the case are ongoing. Trump’s sentencing in the case is July 11, and his team has also suggested he will appeal the verdict — details that could make the prosecutor reticent to discuss his work.

Colangelo, who gave the opening statement at Trump’s trial in New York, has also been a longtime target of Jordan.

Jordan first sought documents about Colangelo’s hiring in April of last year, launching a separate effort to obtain similar documents from the Justice Department last month.

Colangelo was a senior Justice Department official in the Biden administration before joining the Manhattan district attorney’s office in December 2022.

His resume includes significant experience in recent years working on cases involving Trump.

While working in the New York attorney general’s office, Colangelo was part of a team that sued Trump’s charitable organization in 2018, proving that it was misusing funds, which led to its dismantling.

And during the late Trump administration, he was involved in the office’s investigation into the Trump Organization itself. That investigation would later serve as the basis for New York Attorney General Letitia James’ (D) fraud prosecution, which this year resulted in a $450 million fine for Trump.

Colangelo left James’ office for a senior position at the DOJ, but returned to New York two years later to join Bragg’s team.
