House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (DN.Y.) defended President Biden for saying last year that his son Hunter Biden “did nothing wrong” in connection with the federal investigation related to tax and gun crimes .

Jeffries endorsed Biden on NBC’s “Meet the Press” for his comments about his son’s investigation last year when asked whether it was “appropriate” for the president to weigh in on the case at the time.

“President Biden commented as a loving father, as I would expect any loving father to do. Hunter Biden, of course, is entitled, as is Donald Trump, to the presumption of innocence and a trial by a jury of his peers,” Jeffries said.

“And this Department of Justice will proceed in this way, present the facts and the law and then we will all have to wait for a determination by a jury as to the guilt or innocence of Hunter Biden”, he added.

Biden said last year that Hunter Biden “did nothing wrong” in connection with a multiyear investigation into his son. His comments were made before his son was indicted on tax and gun charges last year.

Biden’s son will now stand trial this week on federal gun charges in Delaware. Prosecutors said Hunter Biden purchased a gun illegally because he falsely said on a form that he was not a drug user.

Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to federal gun charges in October. His attempt to delay the trial on the gun charges failed last month, and previous efforts to have the charges dismissed have also failed.
