House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) on Sunday lashed out at Attorney General Merrick Garland, claiming he has done “more damage” to the Justice Department’s “credibility” than the former White House medical advisor Anthony Fauci. for “public health”.

“Look, Merrick Garland did more damage to the credibility of the Office of Justice than Dr. Fauci did to the credibility of public health,” Comer said in an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“I don’t think anyone in America believes anything that Merrick Garland is saying when he says the Justice Department is not political, they’re not treating Republicans any differently… any differently than they’re treating Democrats, and that they have.’ I have not done anything improper or inappropriate in relation to the Biden investigation,” he added.

House Republicans have long alleged that the DOJ delayed a tax crimes investigation into President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden. Two IRS whistleblowers testified before the Oversight Committee last year, alleging that the president’s son avoided true justice.

“We’ve had whistleblowers come forward to the IRS. We know from notes from the Securities and Exchange Commission and from different jurisdictions within the Department of Justice that there have been multiple multi-agency investigations of the Bidens over the last decade,” Comer said Sunday. “And in each case, the Justice Department told investigators to stand down when the lead came back to Joe Biden.”

House Republicans have struggled to solidify evidence that the Biden family was involved in corruption and that Biden was involved in Hunter’s foreign business dealings while serving as vice president.

Garland testified before the Judiciary Committee last week, striking a sharper tone against Republicans for their rhetoric surrounding investigations into former President Trump, specifically those led by district attorneys.

He also responded to questions and criticism from Republican lawmakers about his decision not to release tapes of Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur. Biden invoked his executive privilege to block House Republicans from obtaining the recordings, and Garland said this was done to protect the DOJ’s ability to obtain cooperation in other “high-profile cases.”

Like Garland, Fauci came under fire from House Republicans when he testified earlier this month to the House Oversight and Accountability Committee investigating the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fauci was asked about several conspiracy theories and unsubstantiated claims about his actions regarding COVID-19, as members of the Republican Party tried to blame him for the struggles Americans have faced during the pandemic.

Comer later alleged that Fauci lied to Congress about the administration’s initial COVID response, claiming the health chief set the recommended social distancing of 6 feet.
