House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is asking President Biden’s doctor to grant a transcribed interview in connection with the committee’s investigation into Biden’s family.

Comer told White House physician Kevin O’Connor that the committee is “concerned that his medical evaluations were influenced by his private business efforts with the Biden family,” in a statement. Letter sent to O’Connor on Sunday.

Comer pointed to a recent article by The Washington Post who reported that O’Connor never recommended that the president take a cognitive test.

“After President Biden’s sobering debate against former President Donald Trump on June 27, journalists rushed to report what Americans have seen clearly for years: the president appears unwell,” Comer wrote.

“Americans question President Biden’s ability to lead the country, and the Oversight and Accountability Committee is investigating the circumstances surrounding his assessment in February of this year that ‘President Biden is an 81-year-old man, healthy, active and robust, who remains fit to successfully execute the functions of the Presidency,’” continued Comer.

Biden’s debate performance raised concerns among Democrats and experts that he may not be fit to serve another term as president. Biden, 81, has rejected concerns and calls to resign from the ticket, saying he is still the best candidate to defeat former President Trump.

Comer was a key figure in the Republican Party’s impeachment inquiry against Biden. However, the investigation has not yet solidified evidence that Biden was involved in his son’s foreign business dealings while serving as vice president or that his family was involved in corruption.

Comer is asking O’Connor to provide answers about his “independence,” according to the letter.

“You have repeatedly declined most interview requests from the media, and the Committee now turns to you to provide answers about your independence given the mixed and mixed messages coming from the White House about the President’s ability to do his job,” Comer wrote.

Comer pointed out Biden’s answers to some questions during a ABC News Interview on Friday. When asked if he would be willing to take a cognitive test, Biden said, “I take a cognitive test every day.”

O’Connor’s February medical examination found that Biden is “fit for duty.”

Comer is also asking O’Connor to provide documents related to Americore Health and James Biden, the president’s brother. James Biden asked for O’Connor’s help in 2017 in connection with his work with Americore, according to for a transcript an interview with the committee and a Political report earlier this year.

“Given your connections to the Biden family, the Committee also seeks to understand whether you are in a position to provide accurate and independent assessments of the President’s fitness to serve,” Comer wrote.

Comer asked O’Connor to contact his team by July 14 to schedule an interview.
