Rep. Mary Peltola (D-Alaska) will not be present for House votes this week so she can prepare fish for her family.

“This week, Congresswoman Peltola will be in the state loading fish with her family to fill the freezers during the winter. Mary’s family – like her late husband’s family – depends in part on her for subsistence tasks,” her office said in a statement. .

“Congresswoman Peltola will submit publicly available statements to the Congressional Record reflecting how she would have voted had she been present,” the statement added.

Her office noted that she puts out fish for her family during the summer every year to prepare for winter. Peltola also posted photos of his fishing on social media platform X, emphasizing the importance of fishing in Alaska.

“There’s nothing like being on the water. Part of the reason I am so adamant about pro-fishing policies is because I know how critical it has been and continues to be for all Alaskans to be able to count on Alaska’s fisheries,” she wrote on X.

“Together, we will preserve our fisheries, not only for the communities that depend on them today, but for future generations to experience and create memories,” she added.

Peltola’s husband, Eugene Peltola Jr., died in a plane crash last September in Alaska. She has served in Congress since she won an unexpected victory in the deep red state of Alaska in 2022.
