Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) says he is “amused” by the conspiracy theories surrounding his wife’s death last month.

On a Thursday post on social platformMassie told his followers he would return to Congress to work just two weeks after announcing the death of his wife, Rhonda Massie.

“Although I initially reacted with outrage to the Internet conspiracy theories about her death, I have since been amused because I know Rhonda would have laughed, and if I had been on the sidelines, I might have had similar concerns,” he posted.

The Kentucky congressman said he can dismiss one of the conspiracy theories floating around: “She didn’t get the COVID shots.”

Massie said he and his wife were “HIV positive when they became available.”

He tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies in July 2020 and said he planned to donate plasma.

Massie opposed a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package that drew broad bipartisan support.

In his post, he said their home was “very safe” and that the family was with Rhonda the night she died. An autopsy was performed, but the results have not yet been returned to the family.

Massie announced his wife’s death in late June. The two were high school sweethearts, went to prom together, and both attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They have four children and have been married for over 35 years.

“I joked that after examining hundreds of photos of us from high school, the only credible conspiracy I can offer is a beautiful girl who was a literal genius conspired to make a congressman, who wouldn’t be controlled by anyone but her, outside of a nerd strange to take him as her boyfriend at 16 and commit to decades of continually molding him into something better,” Massie wrote.

The Kentucky Republican said he is returning to work and asked for forgiveness for votes lost during his time away. He added that he hopes to invoke the “grace, patience and wisdom that she silently and selflessly dedicated to the effort of serving you.”
