Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas), former White House physician, described the aftermath of the recent shooting at a former President Trump rally in Pennsylvania.
According to an interview published Tuesday in The New York Times, Jackson was aboard Trump’s plane the day after the rally. He fixed Trump’s ear as they flew to Wisconsin for the upcoming Republican National Convention (RNC).
“The bullet hit just above the top of his ear in an area that, by its nature, bleeds like crazy,” Jackson told the Times. “The dressing was a little bulky because you need a little absorbent. You don’t want to walk around with bloody gauze in your ear.
Trump faced an assassination attempt Saturday at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was hit in the ear and walked into the RNC convention hall on Monday with a bandage over it.
Shortly after the assassination attempt, Jackson and Trump spoke, according to the Times interview.
“He picked up the phone and said, ‘I’m not taking many calls, but this is my doctor. I’m going to keep this one,’” Jackson said, according to the Times.
Jackson told Trump he could help him in any way possible, through medicine or the media, according to the Times interview.
“I would rather have you here,” Jackson said, the former president said, according to the Times. “And I said, ‘OK, I’ve said enough.’”
Jackson boarded a plane on Saturday and arrived at the former president’s golf club in central New Jersey around 4:30 a.m. the next day, according to the Times interview.
The Texas Republican said Saturday that he had a nephew who was grazed by a bullet at the rally in Pennsylvania.
“They heard the shots and everyone fell to the ground,” Jackson explained. “And I don’t know if you have the photo or not, but he was grazed in the neck. A bullet crossed his neck, cut his neck and he was bleeding.”
