Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) criticized a reporter during this week’s Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, accusing the journalist of being responsible for the country’s political division and the attempted assassination of former President Trump.

Greene, in an interview with London’s Times Radio on Tuesday, was discussing her support for Trump’s newly announced running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), when reporter Jo Crawford asked her about Vance’s suggestion that The UK may now be the first “truly Islamic” country to possess nuclear weapons following the Labor Party’s landslide victory in the recent general election.

“Doesn’t this paint a grim picture for relations with the UK?” Crawford asked Greene, to which the congresswoman went on to accuse Democrats of “demonizing” Trump and other Republicans.

“Well, let’s talk about the Democrats’ words,” Greene said, adding “demonize him [Trump] so much so that a 20-year-old young man, which is difficult to imagine, climbed onto a roof and tried to assassinate President Trump.”

When Crawford tried to intervene, Greene said, “Let’s talk about people like you who demonized people like me [and] President Trump.”

The Georgia Republican then said she faces an overwhelming number of death threats because of what she described as misleading news.

“You should be ashamed of yourself. You’re the problem,” Greene said, adding, “You’re ridiculous. And you’re the problem in our country. You lie about people like me; this is the first time you’ve spoken to me.

“Your job is the press: you must spread the news and not lie…” she added.

As Crawford tried to continue, Greene said, “You can’t ask any more questions. I broke up with you because you are the cause of…. our country is divided. You are the cause of President Trump’s near assassination, you are the cause of everything that is wrong in America.”

The Hill has contacted The Times of London for comment.

The comments came just days after the shooting at Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which injured the former president and killed a spectator. Two other participants were injured.

Moments after the shooting, some in the crowd pointed at press reporters, shouting, “This is your fault!”

The gunman, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead by authorities moments after shooting the former president from a nearby rooftop.

Questions remain about Crooks’ motive.

Since then, Trump and several of his allies have called for unity, and President Biden urged Americans to lower the temperature on politics in a prime-time speech Sunday night.
