One very heavy majority of the Chamber voted on Thursday a resolution to condemn Iran’s recent attack about Israel.
However, 14 members voted against the resolution, including 13 Democrats and one Republican. The group of Democrats includes Squad members including Reps. Jamaal Bowman (DN.Y.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.), while Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the only Republican to vote against the resolution.
Last weekend, Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones against Israel, but Israeli and allied forces managed to shoot down most of them.
Here are the House members who voted against condemning Iran’s attack:
Representative Jamaal Bowman (DN.Y.)
In a statement Thursday, Bowman he said that he “unequivocally” condemns the recent attack by Iran, just as he also condemns an alleged previous attack by Israel, which is why he “voted against” the resolution”.
“President Biden has made clear that he does not support the escalation of violence in the Middle East, which this resolution will contribute to by supporting further military action,” Bowman’s statement continued. “We must do everything in our power to end the ongoing violence, seek a lasting ceasefire and save civilian lives. Instead of advancing resolutions that fan the flames of war, Congress should recognize all the lives that have been lost, both Palestinian and Israeli. We have a moral responsibility to govern in a way that centers those most affected and nurtures humanity, rather than succumbing to more warmongering and violence.”
Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas)
To marry he said in a post on social platform X Thursday that “voted no to a bill that ‘fully supports’ an Israeli military response to Iran’s retaliatory and escalatory attack.”
“I unequivocally condemn Iran’s attack that risked civilian lives, but I cannot support continued escalation that could drag the US into a regional war,” his post continued.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.)
On a Thursday declarationthe Washington Democrat said that “Iran’s attack on Israel was a dangerous escalation that could quickly escalate into a larger regional war.”
“I condemned Iran’s attack, as well as the precipitating hostilities that led to the attack, and called for immediate de-escalation to reduce the threat of these actions escalating into a broader regional conflict,” Jayapal said. “I also supported President Biden’s actions, along with allies, to thwart the Iranian attack and defend Israel against these threats.”
“I voted no on this resolution because I am concerned that it will further escalate the situation at exactly the time when we need to do the opposite,” Jayapal added. “It does not mention Israel’s rash attack on the Iranian embassy that led to this attack. “Fully supports” further offensive actions by Israel and calls for continued arms sales to Israel.”
