Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio), the Democrat who represents Sen. J.D. Vance’s (R-Ohio) district, criticized the vice presidential nominee for his views on abortion, women and marriage, arguing that he was “one of the cruelest, most chaotic and downright strange” VP campaigns.

Earth Manin a long thread on X Monday, argued that Vance does not represent the “opinions and beliefs” of the more than 800,000 residents of southwest Ohio’s 1st Congressional District.

“Right now, Mr. Vance is running one of the cruelest, most chaotic, and frankly *weirdest* campaigns for Vice President we’ve ever seen,” Landsman wrote in X, later adding, “Mr. Vance mocks single women , calling them ‘a bunch of childless babes with miserable lives’.”

Landsman was referring to 2021 comments Vance made criticizing those who don’t have children, which Democrats have widely criticized.

In those comments, Vance told then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the country was being run by “a bunch of childless hotties who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made, and then they want to do the rest of the work.” miserable country too.”

Vance defended the “childless hot women” comments last week, calling them a “sarcastic comment.”

“I know the media wants to attack me and wants me to backtrack on this, Megyn, but what I said is that having kids, becoming a father, becoming a mother, I really think it changes your perspective in a very big way. deep,” Vance said on SiriusXM “The Megyn Kelly Show” last week.

Landsman was to criticize Vance for him previous suggestion that a federal response may be necessary for women who travel across state lines to get an abortion and pointed to Vance’s vote against legislation to establish a national right to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

“Mr. Vance called for a ‘federal response’ to women who travel across state lines to get an abortion,” Landsman wrote. “Last month, Mr. Vance voted against protecting the right to access IVF treatment.”

Taylor Van Kirk, a spokesperson for Vance, told The Hill that the Ohio senator agrees with former President Trump “that each state should have the chance to individually set their own abortion laws.”

“Democrats’ desperate attacks will not distract voters from the deadly effects of Kamala’s open border, the unsustainable cost of living due to her inflationary spending, or any other aspect of her radical, far-left agenda,” Van Kirk said Monday. -fair.

“Mr. Vance thinks people should stay in violent marriages and not get divorced. He thinks some people should get more votes in elections than others depending on whether they can have children,” Landsman continued.

Democrats seized on the comments Vance done in 2021 when talking about no-fault divorce: “This is one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution played on the American population, which is the idea that, like, ‘Well, okay, these marriages were fundamentally, you know, they maybe They might even be violent, but they were certainly unhappy. And so getting rid of them and making it as easy for people to change spouses as they change underwear will make people happier in the long run.’”

Responding to criticism over comments earlier this month, Vance alleged Democrats “completely distorted” his words.

“As you know, both my mother and I were victims of domestic violence. So when they say that ‘Vance supported women who stay in violent marriages,’ I think it’s shameful for them to take a guy with my history and my background and say this is what I believe. It’s not what I said,” Vance told Fox News days after Trump announced he had chosen the Ohio senator as his running mate.

Landsman later stated that Vance is “intrinsically involved” in Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation’s policy plan for a future Republican Party administration. Trump and his allies have sought to distance themselves from Project 2025, maintaining that the project does not represent the Trump campaign.

Democrats and the then-Biden-Harris campaign highlighted Project 2025 for weeks, warning that it will come to fruition if Trump is re-elected. A CNN Fact Check of part of the Biden campaign’s use of Vance’s comments on Project 2025 falsely described his comments.

“We support an economy that works for workers, not billionaires and big corporations. We support women and will fight to restore reproductive freedom. We believe in our democracy and want to protect voters and the integrity of our elections,” Landsman continued. “We believe in pragmatic, bipartisan leadership – not chaos or cruelty.”

“Southwest Ohio doesn’t like this guy, so take it from the people who know him best. Mr. Vance is just plain weird — there’s no other way to say it. This is not a guy we want near the White House,” he concluded Landsman.

Democrats have labeled Vance a “strange” for several of his resurfaced comments. He told Fox News Sunday that his feelings were not hurt by the record company.
