The political wing of the largest Latino civil rights group supported President Biden on Tuesday in Arizona, according to a press release.

“For Latino voters, a clear choice,” Janet Murguía, president of UnidosUS Action Fund, said at a news conference Thursday. “With Biden, we can continue to move forward on the path to progress and a better future.”

“With [former President Trump,] we have gone back to harmful and extreme policies and [an] economy that has crushed our Latino families,” continued Murguía. “As a community and as a country, we cannot afford to go backwards.”

The group also supported Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) in his Senate bid this year. Gallego will likely face controversial former Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.

“This is an election that we cannot lose,” Murguía said at the press conference. “We must re-elect Joe Biden and [Vice President Harris.] And we are here because we know that the president and vice president cannot fight these battles and continue their path to progress alone. They need elected officials who share the same values and who will work to find solutions in Congress.”

A New York Times/Siena College poll last month found Biden has 50% support among Hispanics, with former President Trump at 41%. Biden’s campaign said he is doing everything he can to expand his support among Hispanics.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison welcomed the endorsement from UnidosUS Action Fund in a post on the social media platform X Tuesday.

“Thank you @UnidosUSAF for endorsing the Biden-Harris campaign!” Harrison’s post read. “Your organization’s incredible organizing power will help us re-elect President @JoeBiden and Vice President @KamalaHarris and deliver more for the Latino community.”
