A group of Bolivian military officers took over the main square of La Paz on Wednesday, in an alleged coup attempt against President Luis Arce.
Arce denounced the military presence in Plaza Murillovia a post on Xwriting “democracy must be respected”.
AliveTikTok post from Bolivia TVshowed a group of soldiers and military police entering the government palace, in front of which an armored military vehicle was parked.
Protesters supporting Arce filled some streets leading to the square, chanting pro-Arce slogans.
The military deployed some type of gas for riot control, according to the live broadcast.
Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Luis Almagro at X expressed solidarity with Arce’s government and condemned the army’s actions.
