Eric Trump said he wants “real accountability” for the security failures that led to the shooting at his father’s rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday weekend.

“The men and women on that stage, at that moment, are the best people in the world,” said the former president’s son in an interview with “CBS Nightly News” anchor Norah O’Donnell of the Secret Service agents who protected former President Trump after shots rang out at the rally.

“I know many of them personally and they are phenomenal, phenomenal individuals. And I’m sure they’ll get to the bottom of it, but there better be real accountability,” said the younger Trump. “You cannot allow former presidents to be shot in the ears.”

The former president was hit by a bullet in one of his ears after an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday night, just days before the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Wisconsin. He was wearing a bandage on his ear when he entered the RNC convention hall on Monday.

The Secret Service faced scrutiny following the shooting, with some questioning how the shooter gained access to a rooftop that had a clear line of sight to the elder Trump. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said in an interview that aired Monday that it is her responsibility to investigate the shooting.

“The buck stops with me,” she said. “I’m the director of the Secret Service, and I need to make sure we’re conducting a review and that we’re providing resources to our people as needed.”

In his interview with O’Donnell, Eric Trump said that “his dad’s ear hurts and he’s lucky, it was a bad skin wound.”

“He’s in a great mood,” added the former president’s son.
