Former President Trump lamented security failures at his recent rally, where he faced an assassination attempt, during a portion of a Fox News interview that aired Monday.

“How did someone get on that roof and why wasn’t they reported?” the former president he said in the interview on “Jesse Watters Primetime”. “Because people saw he was on the roof.”

The former president faced an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last weekend. He was hit by a bullet in the ear during the shooting and recently wore a bandage on his ear.

The US Secret Service has faced scrutiny following the shooting, with many questioning how the shooter gained access to a rooftop that had a clear line of sight to Trump.

“We had Trumpers yelling, the woman in the red shirt, she was yelling ‘…man on the roof,’ and then other people… ‘There’s a man on the roof who has a gun.’ And that was right before I went on stage. So you would think someone would have done something about it,” Trump said in the interview.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle also faced pressure and scrutiny from both sides of the aisle following the shooting. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) called on him to resign on Wednesday, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called for new leadership at the agency the same day .

“The evidence that has come to light has shown unacceptable operational failures,” Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.), the first Democratic congressman to call for Cheatle’s resignation after the incident, said in a statement posted on the social platform X Saturday. “I have no confidence in the leadership of the United States Secret Service if Director Cheatle decides to remain in her role.”

The Hill contacted the Secret Service.
