This week’s Sunday newscasts will likely focus on who will become former President Trump’s running mate.

Competition for Trump’s vice presidential job appears to have heated up recently, with some of the potential candidates stopping by the former president’s trial in New York, including Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Florida), who will appear on “Fox News Sunday “this week. Donalds was also at Trump’s rally in the Bronx this week, according to the Associated Press.

Another candidate to be Trump’s vice president, Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), will appear on CNN’s “State of The Union” this week. Scott criticized the Biden campaign’s new TV and radio ads released this week that target Trump in his claims about his record with black Americans, saying the current president’s record on race is “disgusting, it’s vile and it’s un-American.” .”

A bipartisan border bill was rejected for the second time this year in the Senate on Thursday in a 43-50 vote this week, which will also be a likely focus of this week’s Sunday shows. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), one of the proposal’s negotiators, will appear on CBS’s “Face the Nation” this week.

President Biden went after Republicans for blocking border security legislation after it failed again in the Senate.

“Republicans in Congress don’t care about securing the border or fixing America’s broken immigration system. If they did, they would have voted in favor of the toughest border enforcement in history. Instead, today, they put partisan politics ahead of our country’s national security,” Biden said in a statement.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who will appear on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” this week, and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) sharply criticized the bipartisan border bill in an op-ed by Wednesday for The Colina. In the article, the two firebrand right-wing senators stated that the bill was “rushed” and “drafted behind closed doors, without input from the majority of Republicans.”

“The bill would also codify Biden’s catch and release policies, as it actually requires illegal aliens to be released while they are being prosecuted,” the two senators said in the op-ed. “The American people should just accept that millions of poorly controlled illegal aliens will continue to move into their communities, stealing their jobs, overcrowding their schools and driving up rent prices, but now with the explicit endorsement of the federal government .”

“The bill also spends $20 billion that we don’t have, further mortgaging our children’s future,” the article continues. “It spends the money primarily, not to secure the border, but to more efficiently process and disperse illegal immigrants across America — the vast majority of whom do not have valid asylum claims.”
