Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) and late-night host Bill Maher differed in their opinions on whether President Biden can be reelected on Maher’s show Friday.

“In fact, he is the only American who has ever won [former President Trump] in an election,” Fetterman he said on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” when the host asked him if Biden is the “best for” Democrats to “put forward,” in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.

Fetterman later added that he thinks Biden is “the only Democrat who could win.”

“I believe Joe Biden has that ability to win,” Fetterman told Maher. “And we have a great — we have a great bench, but I think it’s a very different kind of situation right now.”

Maher then commented that he was “surprised by this” but would “move on.”

“I’m not on the same page, but that’s okay,” Maher said. “I mean, it will probably be Joe Biden and I will vote for him.”

The Pennsylvania Democrat staunchly defended Biden ahead of this year’s presidential election, once pushing back against members of his own party who stepped up their criticism of the president before November, saying he might as well wear a “MAGA hat.”

“I don’t understand why,” Fetterman said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I don’t know what you get out of doing that, whether you’re just looking for clout or want to be in the news or something. But if you’re not willing to just support the president right now and say that kind of thing, you might as well grab your MAGA hat, because now you’re helping Trump with this.”

At the beginning of the MSNBC interview, Fetterman said that Biden “is going to win here in Pennsylvania, and I’ve always believed that whoever wins Pennsylvania will also be the next president.”
