Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) said in an interview Saturday that “Black voters cannot be taken for granted” when it comes to the 2024 presidential election.

“We know that Black voters cannot be taken for granted,” Warnock he said on MSNBC’s “The Katie Phang Show” with host Charles Coleman Jr. “And I like the fact that the Biden-Harris campaign is not undervaluing black voters.”

Warnock also said that “the idea that black people should just show up is misguided.

“And I believe Joe Biden understands that,” Warnock continued. “[Vice President Harris] certainly understands this. That’s why, as we move forward in this campaign, you’ll see how they’ve already invested, much more than [former President Trump,] in reaching Black communities while working to uplift them. And you’ll see them grow over the next few months, to tell that story, and the work won’t be done until November 5th.”

A recent poll found that a majority of Black voters in Pennsylvania and Michigan said they would vote for President Biden in a hypothetical matchup. Both Biden and Trump have recently stepped up their messaging to Black male voters, highlighting the importance the group has when it comes to the upcoming presidential election.

Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-N.C.) recently blamed “miscommunication” and “misinformation” for the problems Biden has been dealing with when it comes to Black voters.

“We have to be very careful because this is all about miscommunication, misinformation, and that’s what gives me pause,” Clyburn said in an interview Wednesday.

“I know the power of the media, and the power of the media, to repeat these things instead of reporting what’s really happening,” he continued, “that’s what’s causing the problem.”
