Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) indicated that the current chaos surrounding President Biden’s reelection campaign is good for his party in an interview that aired Sunday.

“It’s hard to unseat the incumbent,” Johnson said on “The Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM to radio host John Catsimatidis.

“This was the pony they were going to ride to re-election and stay in power, and suddenly it blew up in their face and now they’re fighting. Now it’s… ‘How can we get this out of the trash?’” Johnson said of Democrats. “It’s fun to watch, honestly.”

Biden and his campaign have recently been dealing with the fallout from a difficult presidential debate against former President Trump last month, during which the president stumbled over his words and spoke in a hoarse voice. That performance raised widespread concerns among Democrats about the president’s age, mental fitness and ability to maintain the presidency.

Several Democratic lawmakers have already called on the president to drop out of the presidential race, both in the House and Senate. However, at a press conference on Thursday night, Biden said he believes he is “the most qualified person to run for president.”

“I believe I am the most qualified to govern,” Biden said. “And I think I’m the most qualified to win. But there are other people who could also beat Trump. But everything starts from scratch. And you know, we talk about money raised. We’re not doing bad.”

“So let’s start there, #1,” he continued. “The fact is that I consider myself the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him once and I will beat him again.”

The Republican National Convention (RNC) will be held in Johnson’s home state of Milwaukee starting Monday. In the interview with Catsimatidis, Johnson said he wants “convention attendees to be able to taste some of our beers and brats and hopefully fresh cheese curds,” which Johnson’s home state is known for.

Trump said there is a strong “chance” he will announce his vice presidential pick at the convention.

“That’s probably a good chance, I’d say. I’m not saying anything is 100 percent, but you’re getting pretty close. I’ll do it in Milwaukee, we’ll have a lot of fun,” Trump said in an interview released in May.
