Trump’s former national security advisor John Bolton is joining those criticizing vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance’s previous statement about “childless hot women.”

Bolton believes the comment could resonate politically as much as 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s comments describing some Trump supporters as “deplorable.”

“I think these comments from Vance are really the 2024 counterpart of [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton’s famous statement in the 2016 election where she called Trump supporters ‘deplorables,'” Bolton said on CNN’s “The Source” on Friday.

“[I] I mean, if politicians can’t learn – it’s one thing to attack your opponent, it’s another thing to attack your opponent’s supporters,” Bolton said.

“And this is not a way to win friends and influence people,” Bolton continued. “I don’t think Vance has learned the lesson that Hillary Clinton, unfortunately for her, learned in 2016. That’s going to hurt Trump as he gets closer to the election.”

Vance, the Republican senator from Ohio, was chosen by Trump as his running mate less than two weeks ago. He is seen as a potential heir to Trump’s MAGA label and is a friend of Donald Trump Jr.

However, he faced significant backlash for 2021 comments in which he said the country was being run by “childless hotties.” His comments generated criticism from names like Jennifer Aniston, from Hollywood.

“It’s just a basic fact – you look at [Vice President] Kamala Harris, [Secretary of Transportation] Pete Buttigieg, [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)] – the Democrats’ entire future is controlled by people without children,” Vance said. “And how does it make sense for us to hand over our country to people who don’t really have a direct interest in it?”

Vance said the statement about “babyless hotties” was “sarcastic” Friday on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show.”

“I know the media wants to attack me and wants me to backtrack on this, Megyn, but what I said is that having kids, becoming a father, becoming a mother, I really think it changes your perspective in a pretty profound way.” , Vance said.

Vance sought to explain the cat’s comments as sarcastic and said he was criticizing the Democratic Party and no person who chooses not to have children, or those who have difficulty having children.

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins appeared surprised by the vehemence of Bolton’s comments about Vance.

“That’s the most damning comment you can hear from a Republican, that something someone said is the same as what Hillary Clinton said in 2016 about the ‘basket of deplorables,’” Collins said.

The Hill reached out to a spokesperson for Vance and the Trump campaign.
