Biden Campaign to Stay on TikTok After President Signs Bill That Could Ban the App

The Biden campaign plans to continue using TikTok to reach voters and spread its message, even after the president signed legislation that could lead to a ban on the popular app several months later.

A Biden campaign official told The Hill that TikTok “is one of the many places where we make sure our content is seen by voters” as part of a strategy to reach Americans through a fragmented media environment.

“When the stakes are so high in elections, we will use every tool we have to reach young voters where they are,” said the campaign manager.

The campaign is using “enhanced security measures” on the app, the official said.

President Biden on Wednesday signed legislation that could ban TikTok in the US. TikTok’s China-based parent company, ByteDance, will have up to a year to sell the app or face a ban from US app stores and networks.

“This unconstitutional law is a ban on TikTok and we will challenge it in court,” a TikTok spokesperson said in a statement.

Supporters of the signed legislation say TikTok poses national security concerns because it is owned by a Chinese company, which they say exposes American users’ sensitive data to the Chinese government. TikTok rejected these accusations.
