ChatGPT has been breaking daily traffic records since it recently launched new features, according to Similarweb.
After OpenAI revealed a new artificial intelligence model, GPT-4o, last week, the ChatGPT website received more than 100 million visits in the two days following the announcement, according to for SimilarWeb. The chatbot website is on track to “record well over 2 billion visits this month, surpassing the previous peak of 1.8 billion in May 2023,” based on traffic data from the first 17 days of May.
“In the first 17 days of May, traffic averaged 17.8 million daily visits. If it continues at this level, the monthly total would be 2.3 billion visits,” reported SimilarWeb. “The previous monthly record was 1.8 billion visits in May 2023. Even if traffic declines in the final weeks of the month, a total of over 2 billion visits seems likely.”
OpenAI chief technology officer Mira Murati said GPT-4o has “GPT-4 level intelligence” but is faster and improves the system’s abilities in text, vision and audio.
“This is really changing the paradigm for the future of collaboration, where this interaction becomes much more natural and much, much easier,” said Murati.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also said the new model would be accessible to all users of the ChatGPT AI chatbot, including those using it for free, in a post on social platform X.
