The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is expected to hold a hearing on the federal response to the recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, according to to a press release from the committee on Thursday.
“Transportation and Infrastructure Committee [Chair Sam Graves (R-Mo.)] announced that the full Committee will hold a hearing with witnesses from federal agencies to discuss the ongoing investigation into the Motor Ship alliance DALI with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland and the federal response to the incident,” the press release says.
The hearing will take place next Wednesday at 10 a.m. and will feature witnesses including National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Administrator Shailen Bhatt, according to the communicated.
Earlier this week, the sixth and final missing body of construction workers killed in the Baltimore bridge collapse was found. Rescue divers found the body of 37-year-old José Mynor López on Tuesday at the site of the bridge collapse, according to Unified Command officials.
“With a heavy heart, today marks a significant milestone in our recovery efforts and closure for the loved ones of the six workers who lost their lives in this tragic event,” Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., Superintendent of the Maryland Department of Police State, said in a statement.
Shortly after the bridge collapse, President Biden promised to “move heaven and earth” to rebuild the bridge.
“Folks, we are going to move heaven and earth to rebuild this bridge as quickly as possible,” Biden said. “And we will do it with union labor and American steel.”
