When is Charlotte stingray’s birth date?
Charlotte’s due date is expected to be any day, although there is no specific time as things stand.
Charlotte’s pregnancy was confirmed in November, but was not publicly announced until Tuesday, February 6.
On Facebook, the aquarium wrote: “Our stingray, Charlotte, is pregnant!
“We’ve held this in our hearts for over 3 months. We have ultrasound images confirmed by two supporters: Dr. Robert Jones, veterinarian at the Australia Aquarium, and Becka Campbell, PhD candidate at Arizona State Univ.
“What’s really amazing is that we don’t have any male lightning!” the announcement continued, adding that there are “a few possible reasons for this event.”
“We hope you will join us. Participating is a once-in-a-lifetime scientific mystery,” concluded the post.
Where is Charlotte the stingray?
Charlotte the stingray, believed to be between 12 and 14 years old, is currently living in a tank at a North Carolina aquarium.
She can be found at the Aquarium & Shark Lab by the ECCO team in downtown Hendersonville.
Brenda Ramer, founder and executive director of Team ECCO, said the aquarium averages 70-75 visitors per day when it is open.
But since news of Charlotte’s mysterious pregnancy broke in early February, interest and curiosity have increased across the world.
Since then, the aquarium has been flooded with curious onlookers hoping to witness the birth of the newborns.
Fans can’t get enough of Charlotte
Since the news of Charlotte’s pregnancy was announced, the stingray has gained millions of fans who are desperate for the mystery to be solved.
The social media channels of Team Ecco, the nonprofit that owns the North Carolina aquarium where Charlotte lives, have gone viral.
O TikTok account which shares updates about Charlotte’s pregnancy has almost 30 million views, with millions more following along on Instagram and Facebook.
“I think I’m more invested in this stingray than my own family right now,” said one fan in Charlotte’s latest update.
What kind of stingray is Charlotte?
Charlotte is a round stingray from California.
The round stingray, also known as Haller’s round stingray, is a species of round stingray with nearly round pectoral fins, often found on Southern California beaches.
The species name, halleri, comes from the son of Major Granville O. Haller of the United States Army, who was stung in the foot in San Diego Bay.
Round stingrays have a venomous spine, but it is not fatal to humans.
Mystery of the Two-Year-Old Gibbon
In February 2023, another mysterious solo pregnancy shocked a Japanese zoo, triggering a two-year investigation.
Momo o gibbon – who lives alone in a tank – gave birth in 2021, which sent her zookeepers on a futile chase to find out who the father was.
The white-handed gibbon lived in a cage with large bars covered in chicken wire, separating him from the neighboring males.
It was eventually discovered through DNA testing that the father was a gibbon from the neighboring cage, with the point of contact being a hole in the wall nine millimeters in diameter.
