Join us in the Call for Earth Day on December 4, 2024 and celebrate Connected Generations

Editor’s Note: Call to Earth is a CNN editorial series committed to reporting on the environmental challenges facing our planet, along with the solutions. Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative partnered with CNN to promote awareness and education around key sustainability issues and to inspire positive action.

Human-caused climate change is creating a range of problems across the world. The last 10 years have seen the 10 highest global temperatures in recorded history. How can we reverse this trend and provide solutions for a better future? Perhaps the answer lies in the past.

This year, on Call to Earth Day, we will connect the generations and learn the wisdom that our ancestors achieved through thousands of years of sustainable living practices, learning how this ancient intelligence can be put back into practice in our lives daily.

On December 4, 2024, schools, individuals and organizations around the world will take action through a series of trash cleanups in a collective effort to improve the planet they will one day inherit. Each student will also be encouraged to write a letter to their future self, discussing what they love most about the environment they live in and why it is part of an extraordinary planet worth protecting.

Register your event

“Called to Earth – Connected Generations” celebrates the bonds between people and cultures and how they can help play a vital role in preserving our planet.

We look for people, young and old, to stand up and start taking action, cleaning up the environment around them. Whether on a beach, backyard, busy street or vacant lot, just gather a group of friends, school or work colleagues and help remove the trash that causes environmental damage.

Once you have a plan, the next step is to tell us what you will do. You can register your Call for Earth Day event below.

Spread the word

Now you need to let your network know what you are doing. Announce your plans on social media and you’ll be surprised how many other people it can inspire to join in or start their own cleanups.

On December 4th, don’t forget to take photos and videos of your cleanup and post them on social media using the hashtag #CallToEarth. We plan to feature several events across our various media platforms throughout the day, so we hope to see you on CNN!

If you plan to take a video of your event with a smartphone, frame it horizontally (or, more simply, just hold the phone sideways). You can also download our song Call to Earth for free to play in the background. If you use other music that doesn’t belong to us, unfortunately we won’t be able to share your videos!
