The question of whether alien life exists in the universe will be a lifelong debate – until we find proof.

However, the UK’s latest astronaut, Rosemary Coogan, believes it is “extremely unlikely” that humans are alone.

“The universe is huge, which is one of the most fascinating things about it, because it’s almost beyond imagination to really try to think about what might exist in every corner of the universe,” Coogan told The Sun during an exclusive interview in Farnborough . International Air Show.

“Personally, statistically speaking, it should be very unlikely that we are the only life that has ever existed in the universe.”

Coogan, who became the UK’s third female astronaut after completing her training at the European Space Agency (ESA) in April, added: “Of course if we start restricting things, we think: are we the only life?

“So, are we the only intelligent life? Are we the only intelligent life that exists in this period?

“Of course, then, are we close enough to another life form that we can contact it or find traces of it?

“So you start to understand why we haven’t found that definitive evidence yet.

“But I believe it is extremely unlikely that we are and have always been the only forms of life.”

Humans have been firing radio messages in different directions into space, like metaphorical flares, since the 1960s, hoping to be detected by an alien intelligence.

But we weren’t that lucky.

Are we closer to finding aliens? NASA discovers 85 Earth-like exoplanets with the ingredients needed to sustain life

NASA has stepped up its efforts by signing plans to launch three more innovative probes before the end of the decade, with the mission of finding life beyond Earth.

Astronomers have detected 85 planets outside our Solar System that could potentially support life.

The problem is that they are so far away.

Each Earth-like planet lies between 70 trillion (70,000,000,000,000) miles to 15 quintillion (15,000,000,000,000,000,000) miles away from Earth.

However, scientists are not yet done uncovering the mysteries of our own solar system and what may be hidden in our planetary neighbors.

A few days ago, NASA scientists found an “unexpected” but fundamental ingredient for life on Mars – elemental sulfur, hidden in a cluster of yellow crystals.

It is the first time that elemental sulfur has been found on the Red Planet in 30 years of exploration.

It is one of the six building blocks of life, along with carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and phosphorus.

These elements combined constitute 98% of the living matter on Earth.

“We are discovering a lot of interesting clues about the history of the universe and this could also tell us where it is going, what could be there in the future,” Coogan added.

“And it’s one of the reasons we do this exploration.”
