Twenty-eight suspects will appear in court on Tuesday following disorder in Middlesbrough on Sunday – as forces in other parts of the country charged people with alleged crimes committed online during riots across the UK.

Those who will appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court have been charged with violent disorder and other offences. The court has reserved a remand court to deal with those who appeared today, police said.

It turns out six people are due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court following riots outside a hotel housing migrants in Rotherham on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nottinghamshire Police have charged eight people in connection with riots that broke out during protests in Nottingham city center.

People are expected to appear in court in relation to the violent disorder, as forces have also begun arresting and charging people in relation to alleged crimes committed online.

Jack Parlor, 28, was charged by West Yorkshire Police with using “threatening words or behavior with intent to incite racial hatred”.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the charge related to alleged Facebook posts made between August 1 and August 5.

Parlor will appear at Leeds Magistrates Court this morning.

Officers from Cheshire Police arrested a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment with intent to cause fear and violence.

On Sunday 4 August, officers received a number of reports from concerned members of the public regarding a Snapchat post encouraging members of the public to take part in a protest at a hotel in Cheshire.

The force said in a press release today: “The post contained misleading information stating that the hotel was housing a number of asylum seekers. Fortunately, the post did not result in any disorder.

“Following the reports, an investigation was launched by Cheshire Police which resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman from Chester on Monday, August 5.”

The pair have since been released on conditional bail pending further investigations.
