Banksy has unveiled a new work of art in London – the artist’s second in two days.

The Bristol-based street artist’s latest work features the silhouettes of two elephants with their trunks stretched towards each other.

It is painted on what appear to be two blocked windows on the side of a house at the intersection of Edith Terrace and Edith Grove in Chelsea.

The appearance of the elephants comes after the artist claims to have created the artwork of a goat perched atop a thin wall in Kew Bridge, west London, on Monday.

The animal’s silhouette is accompanied by rocks falling from the ledge and a CCTV camera, sometimes pointing at it.

Claiming that he created the elephant art by posting it on his official Instagram account, Banksy – whose identity is not known – did not write a caption alongside it, leaving fans to speculate its meaning.

Many have suggested that this is an allusion to the phrase “elephant in the room”, which is used to address an obvious problem or difficult situation that people don’t want to talk about – a reference to Banksy’s often satirical artwork, which it is sometimes based on questions in politics and philosophy.

While another said the approaching elephants could symbolize “the process of healing and reconciliation”.

In June, an artistic installation of a migrant boat was presented to the crowds at the Glastonbury Festival drew criticism from then Home Secretary James Cleverly.

Cleverly described the stunt as “trivial” and “vile” as he walked through the crowd during performances by indie punk band Idles and rapper Little Simz.

But the artist said that the politician’s reaction was “a little exaggerated”.

Banksy added that the real boat he financed was detained by Italian authorities after rescuing unaccompanied children at sea, it was in fact the one that was “vile and unacceptable”.
