A former Labor councilor has been accused of encouraging violent riots.

Ricky Jones, 57, was filmed addressing a crowd at a demonstration in London on Wednesday night, during which he “appeared to make comments and a gesture to encourage others to act violently against far-right protesters”, said the Crown Prosecution Service.

Jaswant Narwal, chief prosecutor at CPS London North, said: “He was arrested and charged within 48 hours and will now appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, August 9.

“We remind everyone involved that the criminal process is active and that they have the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there are no reports, comments or sharing of information online that could in any way undermine these procedures.”

Jones was a Labor councilor in Dartford, Kent.
