A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 57-year-old man fell from the balcony of a building.

Greater Manchester Police said the man died in hospital after falling from the fourth floor of Black Friar Court in Salford.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 8.40pm on Sunday.

A 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested and remain in custody for questioning, police said.

Officers said the investigation was in the “early stages” and appealed for members of the public “who may have been in the area or address” to come forward.

Detective Inspector David Ogden said: “We know the community will be concerned about this tragic death and we share their concern.

“We are appealing to everyone who has not yet spoken to us.

“Please do not assume that what you know is already known to us.

“The smallest bit of information could be crucial to our investigation and getting answers for this man’s family.”
