A man who looted shops and vandalized 10 cars appeared in court over the UK riots – with a 13-year-old also admitting crimes today in a separate case.

John Honey, 25, pleaded guilty to three counts of stealing from Lush, the O2 store and Shoezone during riots in Hull on August 3.

He also admitted causing racially aggravated criminal damage to a BMW and damaging nine other cars.

Honey is expected to be sentenced at a court in Hull later today.

A 13-year-old girl also pleaded guilty on Tuesday to threatening unlawful violence outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Aldershot, Hampshire.

The teenager, who cannot be identified due to her age, sat with her parents as she admitted the crime outside Potters International Hotel on July 31.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said she was seen punching and kicking the hotel entrance.

She will be sentenced at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 30.

Thomas Power, a senior prosecutor, said: “This alarming incident will have caused genuine fear among people who were being targeted by these thugs – and it is particularly distressing to know that such a young girl took part in this violent disorder.

“Large-scale public unrest is never acceptable and the Crown Prosecution Service will not hesitate to respond quickly and robustly to uphold law and order.”

His conviction comes as analysis by the PA news agency shows that at least 50 young people under the age of 18 have been charged in connection with the national disorder.

Prosecutors have been quickly escorting people through the courts after the week of violence which happened across the UK after the Southport stabbings.

Sentences of up to three years were handed down, and yesterday two 12-year-old children became the youngest people convicted of violence.

One of the boys was filmed throwing an object at a police van, as well as kicking the window of an e-cigarette store and a passing bus, according to CPS.

Others sentenced on Tuesday include 19-year-old father-of-one Drew Jarvis, seen lighting an arrow and shooting it at police officers during riots outside the Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham on August 4.

Jarvis also admitted throwing bricks at police protecting the hotel, where the asylum seekers were staying, and was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court for three years after pleading guilty to violent disorder.

Around 975 people were arrested and 546 charged in relation to the disorder, the National Police Chiefs’ Council said on Monday.

However, the government said that we cannot guarantee that some will not be released after serving 40% of their sentence under a scheme to alleviate prison overcrowding that begins in September.

Protests and violence by far-right supporters appear to have subsided at this time.

Fears from more than 100 meetings last Wednesday did not materialize as a large number of counter-protesters took to the streets.
