Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a human torso was discovered in a nature reserve.

The remains – consisting of the lower back, buttocks and thigh – were found in clear plastic by a passerby at Kersal Dale Wetlands in Salford, Greater Manchesteron April 4th.

The victim is believed to be a white man, over 40 years old, who died a few days before the remains were found.

Two men, aged 42 and 68, from Salford, believed to be acquaintances, were arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The 42-year-old man was arrested after officers raided a bus in Eccles Old Road at around midday, the force said.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, from GMP’s Serious Crime Division, said the arrests were “a significant step” in their investigation and they will now question the men in custody, which “could be key to finding answers”.

DS Hughes said: “At the center of our efforts remains our victim. Our investigation is progressing at a fast pace and we are determined to identify him and find out how he came to this tragic outcome.

“This victim could be a father, brother, son or cousin. He is a man in his 40s, with white skin, believed to be European, and probably had blond or light brown hair and blue eyes.”
