THIS is the moment a gunman opened fire in a street as terrified passers-by cowered – before he was caught in a dramatic attack.
Deraj Meade, 22, fired two shots on John Bright Street in Birmingham city center – sending partygoers running for cover.
He had arrived at the nightlife area at 10.30pm on a hot Saturday night, visiting at least one bar and then a nightclub.
Meade left the club at 3.10am – and was caught on CCTV ten minutes later firing twice in the busy street.
The gunman was returning fire after an unknown assailant shot him in the left arm.
Meade fled the scene – before officers arrested him five days after the shooting on June 17 last year.
Bodycam footage shows how police in a fleet of unmarked cars followed Meade’s BMW into a suburban street.
Armed officers then jumped out of their engines, brandishing black carbines.
Someone is heard shouting, “You’re under arrest – show me your hands! Don’t make any sudden movements!
“Put your hands up now! Put your hands up!”
The officer wearing the body camera then moved to open the backseat door of Meade’s BMW.
He then slammed the door and opened the driver’s seat door – dragging Meade onto the sidewalk.
Seconds after stopping him, officers pulled Meade’s arms back and handcuffed him.
Sergeant Lucy Mooney said: “Meade’s actions put a large number of innocent people at risk.”
She added: “He decided to fire shots in the street on a busy Saturday night.
“But quick investigations led us to arrest him within days and he is now behind bars.
“We are committed to protecting our communities from gun crimes like this.
“We take robust action to stop those who seek to bring violence to our streets.”
The CCTV evidence against Meade was so damning that he pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial.
He admitted possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possessing ammunition without a certificate.
Meade has been jailed for seven years and two months at Birmingham Crown Court.
