ARMED police sparked panic today when they were seen storming a holiday park after locals said they heard screams.
Bystanders say they heard a commotion coming from the old Pontins Park in North Wales this morning.
Snaps showed police in riot gear outside the much-loved Pontins Prestatyn – which closed in November.
The park opened in 1971 and was enjoyed by families for decades to come.
Onlookers were shocked today to see armed police on their grounds.
However, police later confirmed that it was a training exercise.
Witnesses told the Daily: “The armed police were outside a block (on holiday) and the police cars were all at the entrance to Pontins.
“I was nearby and I heard screaming… and when I was coming home, I just saw all the police.”
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We can confirm this is a training exercise and not an ongoing incident.”
Prestatyn Sands Holiday Park closed in November last year without explanation.
O Daily reported that Butlin’s is believed to be interested in acquiring the site.
It was reported this week: “This year sees our biggest investment ever across our three resorts.
“As a well-supported and fast-growing company, we are always looking for new opportunities, and the North West is an obvious location for us in the future.”
