THIS was the moment beachgoers were convinced they had spotted a great white shark off the UK coast.

Shocked Emily Rushton and her husband Dan were strolling through Goring-by-Sea in West Sussex when they spotted the disturbing sight.

The couple were walking their 11-year-old dog, Woody, on the beach when they saw what they believed to be a fin sticking out of the water’s surface.

What initially seemed like a normal object turned into a breathtaking moment when they realized they could be in the presence of a great white shark.

When it swam around a bit, we could see that it was definitely triangular in shape.

The couple claimed to have spotted a triangular shape cutting through the water that sent shivers down their spines.

Emily, from Worthing, said: “At first it looked like something black and triangular in the water.

“That’s what really made it stand out. We could see it moving and we said ‘that looks like a fin’. It wasn’t that choppy, so in the blue water you could clearly see there was something different there.”

They then rushed to immediately take photos of the shocking sighting.

Emily, who was the first to spot the exciting encounter, described how the fin emerged from the depths like a wild animal.

When zooming in with her phone, the mother said she managed to spot a shark.

She added: “We took out our phones to zoom in. But it wasn’t very far away. It was before the buoys. As we kept looking, it would submerge under the water and then rise again and move.

“When it swam a little bit, we could see it was definitely triangular in shape. We thought ‘oh my God’, that’s definitely a fin. As it got slightly closer to the shallower parts, where it was a little lighter, you could see the shape of a body beneath him.

“It was a lot clearer just by looking at it yourself than on the video, but with the phones we could see it and we thought ‘yeah, that’s definitely a shark’. We were so excited because we’re at the beach every day and never see anything.”

The sighting comes after another incident two years ago when a similar fin was spotted in the same waters.

Shark expert Graem Pullen said this could actually be a great white shark.

He added that he possibly lived in the protected area along the West Sussex coast.

Emily said her son was excited to witness the mysterious sighting.

She added: “It’s so amazing that you’re so lucky to be able to see natural wildlife where it’s supposed to be and it doesn’t happen very often.”

But some viewers were horrified at the idea of sharing the water with such a dangerous creature.

Comments poured in from other beachgoers, with many claiming they would never return to the ocean again.

One of them said: “I saw something a while ago, I thought it was a seal. But it’s definitely a shark!”

Another added: “This is definitely a fin for me. I would say SHARK.” A third wrote: “I wouldn’t go swimming to find out anyway!”

And a fourth wrote: “Well, I’m the one who’s never taking my paddleboard off again! Thank you.”

It turns out that beachgoers spotted a “shark fin” in the shallow waters of a popular UK beach.

As families enjoyed the waves at a beach in Waxham, Norfolk, on Sunday, many onlookers were horrified to see a suspicious shark on the horizon.
