A crew member on a 120-day round-the-world voyage is missing at sea.

The Ambassador Cruise Line ship Ambience was on its last voyage from Lisbon, Portugal back in the UK when the crew member was reported missing.

In a statement to Sky News, the United Kingdom cruise line said Ambience initially turned back to “retrace its route to the ship’s position when the crew member was last seen.”

However, it has since been “released from search by coastguard authorities” and is “continuing its original course back to the UK”.

According to the statement, the crew member, who was from India, was reported missing “shortly after breakfast” this morning, while the ship was moving off Cape Finisterre, on the west coast of Spain.

He said a thorough search of the entire ship was carried out for the person, who was not identified, and the local coastguard was informed.

The environment had left Tilbury, Essex on January 6th and is expected to return to port on Sunday.

The Ambassador confirmed that his arrival time, initially scheduled for 9am, will be postponed until the evening.

All events to mark his return have also been cancelled.

“Our immediate priority is to provide full support to all crew members affected by this incident,” said the Ambassador.

“Guests on board were kept informed throughout the day and were informed of recent developments.

“The Ambassador remains committed to the safety and well-being of all our crew and guests. We are deeply saddened by this incident and our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague’s friends and family at this difficult time.”
