Kate is “doing well” after her cancer diagnosis, Prince William says.

O heir to the throne gave the update on his wife’s health on his first visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall.

Tracy Smith, administrator of St Mary’s Community Hospital in Hugh Town, greeted William when he arrived and organized his tour of the small medical center after his visit to the port, where he bought Cornish pasties for his entourage.

Smith said: “I asked William about his wife Kate and he said, ‘she’s fine, thank you’, and I suggested they might like to come for a visit and bring the children.”

William told her, “The kids are really jealous that I’m here… Maybe we can go later this year.”

He received a card for his father King – also a cancer patient – and Kate by matron Lynda McHale, who said: “It was a card from my granddaughter who wanted to wish her father and his wife ‘get well soon’.”

Kate revealed that he was undergoing cancer treatment in a video in March.

The Duchess of Cornwall said of her diagnosis at the time: “Of course this has come as a huge shock, and William and I have done everything we can to process and manage this privately, for the good of our young family.

“As you can imagine, this took time. It took me some time to recover from major surgery to begin my treatment.

“But most importantly, we have taken time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I will be fine.”

Asked what kind he wanted, William replied “traditional” and ordered five.

As everyone in the cafe laughed, he quickly added, “They’re not all for me.”

He added: “It smells delicious in here.”

He also donned a wetsuit to swim in the waters around Tresco – where he is said to holiday with his family.
