A teenager has died after getting into difficulties while swimming in a river in Northamptonshire.

Ronalds Abele, 17 years old, was removed from the Nenê River on Friday afternoon.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the Embankment in Wellingborough just before 2pm.

Firefighters pulled Ronalds from the water, but he was pronounced dead after being airlifted to Northampton General Hospital.

“This was a tragic incident and Ronalds’ family have requested privacy at this distressing time,” a Northamptonshire Police spokesperson said.
