UK weather: ‘Danger to life’ warning as storms hit most of country | UK News

Storms are expected to hit large parts of the UK today – with a warning that flooding in some places could be “dangerous to life”.

The Met Office has issued a series of yellow weather warnings across the country, which look set to bring an end to Britain’s hot spell.

From midday, western and central Northern Ireland will be the first to be hit, with Derry, Omagh, Enniskillen, Newry among the places warned that the heavy showers and thunderstorms forecast could lead to driving conditions difficult conditions, power cuts and floods.

From 1pm, thunderstorms will hit parts of Wales and western and central England.

The Met Office warned: “Flooding of homes and businesses can happen quickly, with damage to some buildings due to flooding, lightning, hail or strong winds.

“Deep or fast-flowing flooding is possible, causing danger to life.”

From 2pm, storms will hit Scotland. The yellow weather warning extends from southern Scotland to the Central Belt as well as the Highlands and Islands.

The Met Office warned Scots: “There is a small chance of rapid flow or deep flooding causing danger to life.”

Heavy showers and thunderstorms in Northern Ireland are expected to end around 7pm and 11pm in England and Wales.

The bad weather is expected to continue in Scotland until 3am on Monday.
