Wales became the first country in the United Kingdom to join the metaverse.

The launch of Wales at the metaverse hopes to give virtual visitors from around the world the opportunity to see what the country has to offer.

Tourism body Visit Wales created the immersive experience with the aim of showcasing some of Wales’ experiences and attractions.

Around 600 million people visit the metaverse every year, on various platforms.

The Welsh metaverse is hosted on the Spatial platform.

Organizers say they believe Wales is also the first European country to use this approach to promote itself as a tourist destination.

The announcement follows a report by a commission of deputies published last July found Wales “lacked a coherent brand” to attract foreign visitors.

Presenter of Doctor who Former games journalist Steffan Powell of Unleashed attended the launch.

He said the metaverse experience would give potential visitors to Wales “a taste of all the exciting things you can see and do on holiday in Wales”.

Welsh Government Tourism Minister Hannah Blythyn said the metaverse was created “to reach new audiences”.

“By showcasing the best of what Wales has to offer visitors in this incredibly innovative way, we are bringing Wales into an online sphere where millions of people already meet every day,” he added.

Visitors to virtual Wales can complete quests, including building an interactive itinerary that includes real Wales-based activities.

It’s a world created in partnership with a Swansea-based company – iCreate.

“Wales punches above its weight when it comes to innovation and technology,” said iCreate founder Dawn Lyle.

“We are excited to be part of this initiative, with the virtual space opening up new worlds of possibilities for reaching new audiences.”

The Wales metaverse has now been opened to the public and can be accessed on smartphones, tablets, laptops, computers and through Meta Quest headsets.
