The King and Queen arrived at St Paul’s Cathedral in central London for a religious service dedicating themselves to the Order of the British Empire.

Established by King George V in 1917 to reward outstanding contributions to the war effort – it now recognizes the work of people from all walks of life.

Around 2,000 people holding the real honors such as MBEs and OBEs – from the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth – were part of the congregation.

It comes after the king held his first investiture in five months – and his first since his cancer diagnosis – at Windsor Castle yesterday.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was one of 52 honored – and received the Grand Cross of the Knights of the Royal Victorian Order.

He said the king seemed “in very good spirits indeed” and “looked very well” as they spoke during the ceremony.

The king’s doctors granted him permission to return to public duties last month.
