King and Queen to join Prince William at D-Day anniversary events in France | UK News

Prince William will join the King and Queen on their trip to Normandy to take part in ceremonies marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, Buckingham Palace said.

The monarch and his wife will attend the Ministry of Defense and Royal British Legion commemorative event at the British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer on 6 June.

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales will attend the Canadian ceremony at the Juno Beach Center in Courseulles-sur-Mer.

The ceremony, organized by the Canadian government, will also be attended by veterans of the Second World War and members of the Canadian armed forces.

William will then participate in the international commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach, Saint Laurent sur Mer, alongside 25 heads of state and veterans from around the world.

The King will travel to France later he returned to public duties following his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

The Princess of Wales, who is also being treated for cancernot expected to attend D-Day events.

Before the royals leave for France, they will take part in the UK’s national commemorative event in Portsmouth on June 5.

Other members of the Royal Family will participate in events marking the anniversary on both dates.

The announcement follows a series of official appearances the king has made since his return to public duties.

King passes senior military position to William

This week he visited Middle Wallop airbase in Hampshire to hand over a role in the Army Air Corps to the Prince of Wales.

He also hosted his first investiture ceremony since returning to official duties and revealed his first portrait as king.

The monarch also attended a service in honor of the Order of the British Empire at St Paul’s Cathedral and hosted a garden party at Buckingham Palace for 4,000 people from the creative industries.

The garden party took place while Prince Harry was in the UK to attend events related to the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

However, father and son did not meet after a spokesman for the Duke said the king was very busy.

Princess of Wales ‘doing well’

The upcoming D-Day anniversary events will come months after the Princess of Wales appealed for her family to be given time, space and privacy following her cancer diagnosis.

She announced in March that she had started chemotherapy.

Prince William gave a positive update on Kate’s treatment while visiting a hospital on the Isles of Scilly last Friday, saying “she is fine”.
