A ‘fit and healthy’ basketball player, aged 40, has died after suddenly collapsing on the court.
Tragedy struck when Guillaume Hoareau suffered a cardiac arrest during a match on Saturday 18 May.
It has been confirmed by the Jersey Basketball Association (JBBA) that the young player collapsed during a Jersey v Guernsey game.
The match was canceled and spectators were forced to leave the building while emergency services rushed to treat Guillaume.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.
Paul Milbank, chairman of the Jersey Basketball Association, said: “The loss of Guillaume is a terrible shock to us all. G was a fundamental part of our basketball community.
“He was an inspiration and mentor to our senior and junior players. He was passionate about basketball and improving the game on the island.
“He proudly represented Jersey at the Island Games and alongside the children he coached.
“In addition to his official duties, G was our friend, our brother and the lifeblood of our community.
“Your energy, passion and enormous spirit have given us so much joy and pride over so many years.
“We wish to express our sincere condolences to his wife and young family, whom we will do all we can to support during this sad time.
“We also convey our deepest condolences to all of his family, friends and colleagues at RBC.”
JBBA has canceled all training sessions out of respect until after the semester.
