A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in London for a terrorism offence.

Police said the investigation, led by the Met’s counter-terrorism command, relates to far-right terrorist material.

The teenager was arrested on Wednesday at an address in west London on suspicion of possessing information that could be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

He was later released on bail until August pending further investigations.

Officers also carried out a search at an address in west London and inquiries remain ongoing.

“This arrest is indicative of an ongoing and worrying trend of young people being attracted to and involved in terrorism-related activities,” said Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s counter-terrorism command.

He added that about a fifth of those arrested for terrorism offenses last year were under 18.

Commander Murphy continued: “This is why it is so important that parents, friends and family are aware of any warning signs that a child may be being drawn into extremism or terrorism and ACT Early by contacting us to advice and support before it’s too late.”
