Manchester United won the FA Cup after beating rivals Manchester City 2-1 in the final at Wembley.

Alejandro Garnacho put the Red Devils ahead with a close-range shot in the 30th minute after confusion between City defender Josko Gvardiol and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

Kobbie Mainoo doubled United’s lead nine minutes later with a clinical finish.

United had a goal disallowed shortly before when Marcus Rashford scored but Garnacho was ruled offside.

Jeremy Doku pulled one back for City late in the second half, but United managed to secure victory and avenge last season’s FA Cup final defeat.

The victory means the team, who finished eighth in the Premier League this season and 31 points behind champions City, have secured a place in the Europa League.

And the victory comes amid speculation that the United manager Erik ten Hag is about to be fired after a disappointing campaign in the national league.

If United had lost the final, they would not be in Europe next season.
