One in four did not know when the Battle of Hastings took place and three percent thought the winner was, er, Robin Hood.

The results, analyzed by Trainline, revealed that 23 per cent don’t know which animal carried the Black Death and 40 per cent have no idea who built Hadrian’s Wall.
