A five-year-old boy was treated in hospital for head injuries after being bitten by an XL bully dog in Hull, police said.
The boy was bitten in a property on Rua Brasil at around 11:45 am on Monday, the force added.
Humberside Police said the animal has been seized while investigations are ongoing.
The severity of the boy’s injuries and whether or not he is still in the hospital have not yet been announced.
Detective Chief Inspector Allison Sweeting said on Tuesday: “We are working closely with the boy’s family and the dog’s owner to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“At this stage the breed of dog is believed to be an XL bully type and has been seized as part of our investigations.”
The attack occurs days later a woman was killed by two XL registered aggression dogs in East London.
She is believed to have died in the breed’s first fatal attack since new animal ownership laws were introduced.

In February, it was a crime owning the Bully XL breed in England and Wales without an exemption certificate.
Anyone who owns one of the dogs must neuter the animal, microchip it and keep it muzzled and on a leash in public, among other restrictions.
The government’s decision to ban XL bullies followed a series of attacks on people and other dogs.
