Four more boys – including a 12-year-old boy – have been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenager in Nottinghamshire.

Police received a report that a teenage girl had been attacked in the early evening of May 25 on the playing fields on Yorke Drive in Newark.

Four boys – aged 12, 13 and two aged 14 – were arrested on suspicion of rape, Nottinghamshire The police said.

They have since been released on bail with strict conditions.

Four other boys – two aged 15 and two aged 16 – were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of rape.

All four remain on conditional bond, authorities said.

A number of people have assisted the force with its investigations and the “investigation continues to progress at a rapid pace”, said Detective Inspector Amy Revill.

She added: “I want to appeal again to the local community and anyone who may have any information to please get in touch with us.

“We have made four more arrests in this case.”

The girl and her family are being supported by specially trained police officers.

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, Newark District Commander, said: “I understand the concerns this incident has caused our community.

“But I want to make it clear that the team of detectives investigating this incident are working around the clock and we will find out exactly what happened.

“We are carrying out extra patrols in the area and this will continue.”
