A Pringle burglar told police “once you show up you can’t stop” following his arrest for a string of robberies.

Adam Spencer stole 17 tubes of Pringles at once during his robbery spree in April and May in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

Spencer was spotted on Tuesday by officers on patrol in the area, who identified him as the suspect they were looking for in a series of robberies and shopliftings.

Spencer fled on his bike as police tried to arrest him, but was caught by officers chasing him on foot.

Two of the robberies he was wanted for happened on the same morning, in the same store in Iceland.

After breaking in the back door at 2.40am on May 2 and stealing meat products, he returned at around 4.20am and stole more than £300 worth of shares.

He also stole from three other stores in the area, first targeting a Tesco on April 11 and then Asda and Iceland stores on April 17 and May 19.

“The actions of prolific thieves like Spencer can have a really negative impact on communities who don’t want to see their stores targeted repeatedly,” said PC Dean Fenton, of Nottinghamshire Police.

“Robbery is also a very serious crime, so we were pleased to be able to link Spencer to the two he was involved in, as well as the shop robberies, and bring him before the courts.”

Following his arrest, Spencer, of Northfield Close in Sutton-in-Ashfield, pleaded guilty to two burglaries and three thefts at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

He was convicted on the same day and received a six-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay £200 compensation and complete a six-month drug rehabilitation programme.
